Pakistan ex-captain Babar Azam turned 30 today, and his teammate Shaheen Afridi wished him on social media with a sweet message. The development comes after rumours of rift between the two players have been rife due to abrupt captaincy changes.

The second Test between Pakistan and England is underway in Multan, and senior players Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi, and Naseem Shah are enjoying the action from home as the trio were dropped from the series midway.

Meanwhile, Babar Azam is celebrating his 30th birthday today and certainly didn’t expect PCB to surprise him with an expulsion.

Nevertheless, his teammate Shaheen Afridi uplifted Babar Azam’s mood with a sweet message on social media. Afridi was one of the first ones to extend birthday greetings to Babar Azam and wish him a great year ahead.

This birthday greeting comes at a time when an alleged rift is brewing between Afridi and Babar over captaincy issues. PCB had sacked Shaheen to reappoint Babar Azam as white-ball captain before the T20 World Cup only for Babar to resign again due to lack of desired results.

However, Shaheen Afridi’s public gesture reflects the unity within the team despite external pressures and internal changes. His desperate bid to show a united front might just work in favour of Pakistan cricket’s positive image.

Babar Azam emotional after learning about Test omission

In a video surfacing on social media, Babar Azam is seen having an intense chat with Pakistan red ball format coach Jason Gillespie. The coach is reportedly informing Babar about the selection committee’s decision to drop him from the ongoing Test series against England, and Gillespie also patted his back to console him. Notably, Babar’s exclusion was a direct repercussion of his ill form as the batter has yet to score a half-century in Test format since December 2022.
