Pakistan batter Fakhar Zaman dug a hole for himself when he published a social media message in support of Babar Azam, who was dropped from the remainder of the Test series against England. In the viral tweet, Zaman threw shade on PCB's mismanagement and questioned their decision-making.

PCB's newly minted selection committee took action after Pakistan's shambolic innings and 47-run defeat against England in the first Test. After detailed analysis, the management decided to drop non-performing seniors Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi, and Naseem Shah for the remainder of the series.

However, the axing of Pakistan's supposed best player of the present generation, Babar Azam, didn't sit well with Fakhar Zaman. The batter took to social media to express his disappointment and concern over PCB's questionable decisions.

He drew a comparison to India's decision not to bench Virat Kohli during his form struggles, stating that dropping Azam could send a "deeply negative message" across the team.

However, Zaman's public criticism drew flak from the board as PCB issued a show-cause notice to the batter to explain his actions, as reported by Cricbuzz. Notably, Fakhar Zaman is a contracted player, and his recent activity violates the player code of conduct. Hence, PCB sent a notice and gave Zaman a 7-day period to explain his position.

It's also important to note that Fakhar Zaman's public criticism of the board comes at a tense time, especially since he had previously voiced frustrations about ill-treatment by PCB officials over NOC waivers for T20 Leagues.

Babar Azam dropped or rested?

PCB announced its squad for the upcoming second and third Tests against England, making headlines by dropping key players Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi, and Naseem Shah. Amid the controversy, assistant coach Azhar Mahmood provided clarification regarding Babar's status.

He stated that Babar Azam had not been dropped but was instead being rested for strategic reasons. He reaffirmed Babar's importance to the team, calling him their "No. 1 player" and noting that the omission was part of a larger strategy to manage player workload.
