The young New Zealand pacer Ben Sears has been ruled out of the three-match Test series against India due to a knee injury. Jacob Duffy, who is yet to make his debut in Test cricket has been named as his replacement and will leave for India on 16th of October and will be available for the selection from the second Test.

Ben Sears injured his knee during New Zealand's tour of Sri Lanka last month and the scans in New Zealand have revealed that he has a tear to his meniscus and that has ruled him out of the entire series. Ben Sears has played just one Test match so far where he picked five wickets against Australia at Christchurch and is rated very highly in New Zealand cricket due to his ability to generate good pace.

Jacob Duffy Brings First-Class Experience To The Table

His replacement Jacob Duffy, on the other hand is an experienced cricketer in domestic cricket. The 30-year-old has played six ODIs and 14 T20Is for New Zealand and has 299 first-class wickets to his name. Also, despite the loss of Sears, New Zealand have other quality pacers in their bowling attack like Tim Southee, Matt Henry along with Will O’Rourke, who was quite impressive in the Sri Lanka series.

The spinners though would have to play a bigger role in the series and the onus will be on the likes of Ajaz Patel, Mitchell Santner, Michael Bracwell to deliver in the opening Test. The first Test is scheduled to start on 16th of October and will be played at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. This is also the first series for Tom Latham as a permanent New Zealand skipper after Tim Southee stepped down ahead of the series.
