India are all set to take on New Zealand in the three-match Test series starting on 16th of October in Bengaluru. One of the notable absentess from the Indian squad is Mohammed Shami who is still recovering from an injury and is running against time to get fit for the the all-important Australia tour.

Recently, there was news that he has developed a swelling on his knee and could be ruled out of the Border Gavaskar Trophy. However, Shami himself denied those news and it seemed that he is on his way to get back to full fitness. However, Rohit Sharma now has confirmed that Shami developed a swelling on his knee and that put his comeback into the Indian side in serious doubt.

Mohammed Shami's Participation In BGT 2024 Doubtful

Rohit mentioned that he does not want to take half-fit Mohammed Shami to Australia and added the pacer is now in NCA working with doctors and physios.

"To be honest, it is difficult to make a call on him for Australia series. He had a setback and had swelling in his knees. That put him back a little bit and had to start again. He's at the NCA with doctors and physios. We don't want to bring undercooked Shami to Australia. We are keeping our fingers crossed."

Mohammed Shami last played for India in 2023 World Cup and underwent a surgery to heal his ankle in February 2024. He was slated to play some Ranji games and make his comeback in the international arena with the New Zealand series. However, the latest knee trouble dashed those plans and it seems that he would miss out on the flight to Australia. India have also included pacers like Mayank Yadav, Prasidh Krishna and Harshit Rana in travelling reserves for the New Zealand series which is a move to keep options ready if Shami misses out.
