Shakib Al Hasan Joins Chittagong Kings; Barishal Rope In Bangladesh Captain For BPL 2025

Shakib Al Hasan has joined the Chittagong Kings franchise for the upcoming 2025 edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). The legendary all-rounder was part of the Rangpur Riders group back in 2024, before the cricketer and the franchise decided to terminate their two-year deal.

Apart from Shakib, Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto was signed in by Fortune Barishal. Shanto played the 2022 season for Barishal, before joining Sylhet Strikers for the 2023 and 2024 editions of the tournament.

Shakib Al Hasan joins Kings amidst security threat

Shakib Al Hasan is set to play the BPL 2025 season even though the cricketer is currently battling security concerns in Bangladesh. Amidst the ongoing political turmoil in Bangladesh, the 37-year-old has joined the Chittagong Kings franchise for the upcoming edition of the tournament.

The BPL 2025 draft took place on October 14. Apart from Shakib Al Hasan, Shoriful Islam was the only other direct signing for the Chittagong Kings franchise. Notably, Shakib’s ‘timed-out’ rival Angelo Mathews is also a part of the team as one of the direct foreign signings. Here is a look at the entire Chittagong Kings team as formed so far for BPL 2025:

Chittagong Kings: Shamim Hossain, Parvez Hossain Emon, Khaled Ahmed, Aliss Al Islam, Mohammad Mithun, Naeem Islam, Maruf Mridha, Rahatul Ferdous Javed, Shakib Al Hasan, Shoriful Islam, Sheikh Parvez Jibon, Marshall Ayub, Graham Clarke, Thomas O'Connell, Moeen Ali, Usman Khan, Haider Ali, Angelo Mathews, Mohammad Wasim Jr and Binura Fernando.

Current Bangladesh skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto, on the other hand, has been roped in by Fortune Barishal for BPL 2025. The cricketer was previously a part of the franchise back in 2022.

The BPL 2025 season is set to launch either in late-December or early January next year. A segment of the BPL will also collide with the backend of the 2024-25 Big Bash League (BBL) season.
