Drama unfolded at Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru as Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli engaged in an argument with on-field umpires as they called out stumps on day four due to bad light.

Play on day 4 had it all, as India started positively and dominated the first session as Rishabh Pant and Sarfaraz Khan stitched a 179-run stand for the fourth wicket that saw India in a commanding position.

However, New Zealand dominated the second session as they turned the course of the match after taking a new ball. Notably, India were 408/3 at one point and lost seven wickets for just 54 runs, setting up a small target of 107 runs.

Virat Kohli And Rohit Sharma Stage Protest

When New Zealand came to bat, Rohit put his trump card, Jasprit Bumrah, to use and handed him the new ball. Bumrah did just what the doctor ordered and nearly got a wicket on the 3rd ball of the first over.

The ball was swinging, and Bumrah was getting assistance from overcast conditions, which is when on-field umpire Michael Gough decided to call it stumps because of bad light.

The decision did not go well with Rohit Sharma and Company, as they felt that play could have gone on for a few more minutes. Rohit engaged in an animated with the umpire and staged his protest against the decision.

Virat Kohli too joined Rohit and was caught saying something to the umpire aggressively. Eventually, the umpires were unmoved by the decision and much to their relief, heavy downpours forced the players to rush to the dugout.

It appeared that the Indian skipper appealed to the umpires to bring on the spinners, but nothing can be confirmed. Talking about the match, New Zealand are yet to get off the mark and require 107 runs to win the first Test.
