KL Rahul succumbed to a brute of a delivery from William O’Rourke at the stroke of Tea break on Day 4 of the series-opening first Test at Bengaluru. Earlier in the match, the middle-order batter failed to score a run as part of India’s colossal collapse for just 46.

Rahul, who averages less than 34 in Test cricket, was drafted into the Indian squad for the New Zealand series ahead of his team’s five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy tour of Australia. However, his latest set of failures in Bengaluru drew much ire of a legion of Indian cricket fans, with several of them questioning the BCCI and the current team management for offering him repeated opportunities in the playing XI.

KL Rahul made his return to India’s Test setup last month with a home series against Bangladesh. The elegant right-handed batter failed to make the most of his opportunity in the first Test as he was dismissed for just 16. Albeit securing sluggish scores at the 2024 Duleep Trophy in Bengaluru, and with one eye on India’s upcoming tour of Australia, Rahul was also drafted into the playing XI for the Bengaluru Test against New Zealand.

The cricketer once again failed to justify his presence, as he was dismissed for scores of 0 and 12 in two innings of the series-opener. Following his latest failure, Rahul was severely trolled by a number of Indian cricket fans on social media.

Here we take a look at some of the fans reacting to KL Rahul’s batting struggles off late.

KL Rahul’s second innings debacle failed to justify India’s spirited fightback laid out by centurion Sarfaraz Khan and dashing wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant. Both Khan and Pant shared 177 runs together in the middle-order to ensure another batting recital for the visiting New Zealanders.
