Pakistan cricket is certainly at an all-time low at the moment, with the team morale down and nothing going right for the once famed Asian side. The team has been shambolic in Test cricket for over 1.5 years, and have not won a home Test match since 2021.

The team has a 0% win record in Test cricket at home, and questions have been raised regarding the place of seniors in the side. However, on Sunday, PCB dropped a bombshell and took a bold call by dropping Pakistan's 'big 3', Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi and Naseem Shah from the second and third Test Vs England.

Babar has been Pakistan's stalwart across formats for the last 7-8 years, but his form was alarming for the Pakistan team. He has not scored a single fifty-plus score in Tests since December 2022, and has been woeful with the bat in recent Test series. Against Bangladesh, Babar only managed to score 64 runs in 4 innings, and on a flat Multan surface, he disappointed once again.

However, as per reports, there was only one member who gave full support to Babar and backed him to come good in the upcoming games - captain Shan Masood. As per reports coming from Pakistan, Masood wanted to back Babar, but ultimately had no say as majority of the votes were against the former Test skipper.

Pakistan squad announced, Shaheen, Naseem also face PCB axe

Not only Babar, but his two colleagues, Shaheen Afridi and Naseem Shah also faced the wrath of the selectors. The newly formed PCB selection panel wanted to try out more youngsters and hence, have included players who are hungry to perform for Pakistan.

Both the pacers, Shaheen and Naseem were dismal against Bangladesh and England, and as a result, have been dropped from the side. This was not the first time Shaheen has been dropped from the Test team. In August 2024, after a poor show Vs Bangladesh in first Test, PCB decided to axe him from the second Test match.
