Rishabh Pant overcame his injury struggles to notch up his 12th Test half-century by smacking 53 unbeaten runs at a near run-a-ball before a slight rain interruption on Day 4. The dashing wicketkeeper-batter shared a fighting 100-plus partnership with centurion Sarfaraz Khan to take Team India to the brink of overcoming their halfway deficit.

Through the course of his whirlwind knock, Pant also completed 2,500 runs in Tests. In doing so, the 27-year-old went past former Indian captain and legendary stumper MS Dhoni for a huge batting milestone.

Rishabh Pant, having made his Test debut back in August 2018 in Nottingham, completed 2,500 runs in the format in just his 36th match and in his 62nd innings. In doing so, the 27-year-old has become the fastest Indian wicketkeeper-batter to scale the landmark figure, in terms of innings, surpassing even the likes of MS Dhoni and former stumper Farokh Engineer.

Here is a list of three fastest Indian wicketkeepers to get to 2,500 Test runs along with the number of innings it took them:

Rishabh Pant’s counterattacking half-century display against New Zealand was glittered with five boundaries and three huge sixes at the M. Chinnaswammy Stadium.

Earlier this year, Rishabh Pant made his return to competitive cricket after a gap of nearly a year-and-a-half since sustaining a near-fatal car accident back in December 2022.

As of now, the dashing wicketkeeper-batter is widely tipped to be a part of Team India’s high-profile touring party to Australia for the upcoming five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy series later this year.
