Friday night at Chinnaswamy was all about chaos, collapses and one man swinging his bat with purpose: Tim David. In a rain-shortened 14-over-a-side scrap between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Punjab Kings, batters were dropping like flies, bowlers were feasting and no one really got going except David.
Why Tim David Won Player Of The Match In RCB vs PBKS?
While the rest of the RCB batting card looked like a train wreck, Tim David held his nerve, dropped anchor and later went full beast mode. He smoked 50* off just 26 deliveries, which included a hattrick off sixes of the final over of Harpreet Brar and dragged his side to 95/9 when they were staring at a total closer to 60.
David was fighting a lone battle out there. RCB’s top and middle-order folded in no time. Wickets kept tumbling but David kept finding the ropes. He hit 5 boundaries and 3 sixes, most of them clean as a whistle. His knock not only gave RCB a fighting total but also gave their bowlers something to bowl at.
PBKS’ Win, But Not One Man’s Show
Punjab Kings eventually chased it down but not before a mini collapse of their own. It wasn’t like one batter came in and won the game single-handedly. Their win was stitched together by a collective bowling effort in the first innings (Arshdeep, Chahal, Jansen, Bartlett, Harpreet, all chipped in with wickets) and Nehal Wadhera’s 33 off 19* that sealed the deal. No one from PBKS stood out that much to snatch the Player of the Match trophy.
Why Tim David Got It?
Sometimes it’s not just about winning. It’s about impact. David walked in when RCB were gasping for breath, steadied the ship and then gave it a turbo boost. He batted smart, picked the gaps, punished the bad ones and more importantly, stood tall when everyone else fell apart.
Given the context, pitch conditions, match pressure and the lack of a standout performance from the winning team, Tim David was rightly named Player of the Match.
