Pakistan's promising opener Abdullah Shafique slammed a scintillating hundred to help his side claim the driving seat in the ongoing first Test against England at Multan Cricket Stadium. However, the stylish batter's stay was put to an end by Gus Atkinson, who got his prized scalp with a nothing delivery.

The incident occurred during the 60th over of Pakistan's first innings when England were desperately searching for a breakthrough. Atkinson, who earlier dismissed Saim Ayub, emerged as the saviour for the visitors, breaking the mammoth second-wicket stand between Shan Masood and Abdullah Shafique.

As the Pakistani batting duo kept frustrating the visitors, England's stand-in captain Ollie Pope brought Atkinson back into the attack. His tactical move paid rich dividends for the Englishmen, dismissing Shafique on his penultimate delivery.

After skipper Shan Masood took a single off the first ball, Atkinson bowled three consecutive dots to keep the centurion Shafique under the pump. The right-arm pacer offered width on his fifth ball, as Shafique decided to free his arms and play a risky shot.

However, he ended up hitting it straight to the point, where Pope took a sharp catch to send him packing. His dismissal reminded fans of legendary Indian batter Virat Kohli, who mostly gets out while chasing such type of deliveries.

Saud Shakeel Joins Hands With Babar Azam

After losing Shafique at the other end, Shan Masood played a loose shot to get out off Jack Leach's bowling. The southpaw hammered 151 runs with the help of thirteen boundaries and two sixes. After the skipper's departure, vice-captain Saud Shakeel joined ace batter Babar Azam in the middle. At the time of writing, Pakistan were 267 for three in 64 overs, with Babar and Saud batting on 5* and 0*, respectively.
