Pakistan are off to a fantastic start in the opening Test of the three-match Test series against England. Shan Masood scored a quickfire century in the second session of the Test and now Abdullah Shafique has also completed his fifth Test century with a six in the 55th over.

The right-handed opener came into this Test with his poor returns in his last few innings and there were some question marks over his position in the Pakistan team as well. However, Shafique has responded brilliantly amidst pressure from the media, and has dished out a fluent knock.

Abdullah Shafique Reaches His Century With A Six

The conditions were bit tricky in the first few overs of the morning session and Pakistan lost Saim Ayub early. Shafique though never looked in trouble and displayed great technique against England pacers. He mixed caution with aggression beautifully and hit 10 fours and two sixes in his knock. His first six took him to his fifty and the second has taken him to his century now. It shows the confidence he has in his game, and in both the sixes he used his feet to great effect against spinners to stamp his authroity on the game.

Pakistan Start Off Crucial Test Series On Positive Note

The last time Shafique crossed 100-run mark, he converted it into a double century and would be hoping to do the same again on a flat deck in Multan. Shan Masood is also batting brilliantly at the other end and is the aggressor between the two. The partnership has built a strong foundation for Pakistan to capitalise in the upcoming days and England now need something special to keep Pakistan's total in check in this opening Test.

The home team are coming into this series on the back of a poor series against Bangladesh where they lost both the Tests against Shanto and company. So, the pressure is on Pakistan and so far things are moving in right direction with big runs at the top of the order.
