Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra strongly criticised Bangladesh's performance following their seven-wicket defeat to India in the first T20I on Sunday, October 6, in Gwalior. Bangladesh struggled to put up a competitive total, and managed only 127 runs before being bowled out. India’s chase was equally one-sided, as the hosts reached the target in just 11.5 overs, taking a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.

Bangladesh struggled from the outset and was unable to build partnerships. The Indian bowlers, led by the returning Varun Chakravarthy, claimed three wickets and dismantled the Bangladesh batting lineup. Arshdeep Singh also impressed with a three-wicket haul, and ensured that Bangladesh was on the back foot throughout their innings.

Aakash Chopra's Reflects On Bangladesh's Poor Performance In Ist T20I

Aakash Chopra, speaking on his YouTube channel a day after the match, described Bangladesh's play as 'sub-standard. He remarked on the team’s failure to offer any challenge to India.

“Decimate, dominate, they were disposed of. Bangladesh guys - what are you doing, what sort of cricket do you play? You didn't even come close. This wasn't a match but a mismatch. India have gone 1-0 ahead. Whoever bowled picked up wickets, and whoever had a bat in his hands hit," Aakash Chopra said on his YouTube channel.

“The Indian team are playing like that because, sorry Bangladesh, due respect, but you are not challenging us. You are playing sub-standard cricket. You are playing extremely mediocre cricket. So when you start challenging yourself, you play cricket like this because whoever came, was hitting,” he added.

Quick Recap To The Ist T20I Between India Vs Bangladesh

India’s chase was dominated by powerful batting from opener Sanju Samson. Suryakumar Yadav then took charge with a brisk 29 off 14 balls, setting up the foundation for a comfortable win. Hardik Pandya closed the match with an unbeaten 39 off 16 balls, allowing India to achieve the target with more than eight overs to spare.

India will host Bangladesh in the next two T20I matches, scheduled in New Delhi and Hyderabad. The team will look to turn things around. However, given India’s commanding performance in Gwalior, Shanto’s squad will need to make significant adjustments to avoid a repeat of the one-sided affair.
