India's out-of-favour batting duo of Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan registered failures with the bat in the ongoing Ranji Trophy competition. While Iyer recorded an eight-ball duck, Ishan Kishan managed 21 runs before Mukhtar Hussain dismissed him. 

Shreyas Iyer's Rough Patch Frustrates Mumbai

After Baroda posted a respectable first innings total of 290 runs, Mumbai had a shaky start to their innings, losing Prithvi Shaw cheaply. The swashbuckling opener, who recently struck a breezy fifty in the Irani Trophy, was castled by Krunal Pandya for seven runs. However, a valiant second-wicket stand between Hardik Tamore and Ayush Mhatre stabilised Mumbai's innings before Bhargav Bhatt brought Baroda back into the contest with triple strikes. 

Experienced Mumbai batter Shreyas Iyer was Bhatt's third victim, with the crafty spinner dismissing for a duck. After failing to open his account in the first seven balls, Iyer fell prey to Bhatt's wily left-arm spin. Thus, the gritty Mumbai batter extended his torrid run in red-ball cricket, further jeopardising his international comeback. 

Ishan Kishan Lets Down Jharkhand With His Performance

Explosive keeper-batter Ishan Kishan also disappointed his fans, scoring only 21 runs on his first Ranji Trophy appearance this season. Notably, Ishan was named Jharkhand's captain for this year's competition. However, he couldn't lead from the front, failing to convert his start into a significant score. 

After Assam won the toss and opted to bowl, scintillating knocks from Nazim Siddiqui, Aryaman Sen, Utkarsh Singh and Kumar Suraj set the foundation for Jharkhand's whopping first innings total. However, Ishan Kishan was a massive letdown with the bat, departing for 21 and leaving his side in disarray. 

As a result, Jharkhand were bundled out for an underwhelming 361-run total on track where 450 seemed a reality. At the time of writing, Assam were 71 for two, with Rishav Das and Denish Das batting in the middle.
