Former Indian cricketer Ajay Jadeja has been announced as the next Jam Saheb of Nawanagar, also known as Jamnagar, a historic princely state in Gujarat. The declaration came on the auspicious day of Dussehra and it marked a significant transition in Jadeja’s life.

Ajay Jadeja Declared the New Heir to Nawanagar’s Royal Legacy

In a heartfelt statement, Maharaja Jam Saheb of Nawanagar expressed his joy over Ajay Jadeja’s decision to carry forward the family legacy.

“Dashera is the day on which the Pandavas felt victorious on their successful completion of their 14 years of incognito existence. I today am also feeling victorious by Ajay Jadeja condescending to be my successor and the next Jamsaheb of Nawanagar which I truely believe is a great boon for the people of Jamnagar. Thank you Ajay, Jai Mataji.” declared the Maharaja.

With his announcement, the people of Jamnagar have a new custodian in Jadeja, whose family ties to this royal legacy run deep.

The former cricketer has illustrious cricketing roots, with his relatives K Ranjitsinhji and KS Duleepsinhji being celebrated through the prestigious Ranji Trophy and Duleep Trophy, respectively. Jadeja’s journey from the pitch to the palace is one for the books, with his multifaceted career and legacy now stretching beyond sport.

Ajay Jadeja’s Career

Ajay Jadeja’s cricket career, spanning from 1992 to 2000, saw him play 15 Test matches and 196 One Day Internationals for India. Known for his athletic fielding and game-changing performances, Jadeja was a crowd favourite.

Beyond his cricketing brilliance, he expanded his public presence by acting in Bollywood movies, participating in the dance reality show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa, and sharing his expertise as a cricket commentator and analyst for various news channels.

More recently, Jadeja assumed the role of team mentor for the Afghanistan cricket team during the ODI World Cup 2023. Under his mentorship, Afghanistan celebrated historic wins against England and Pakistan.
