Gujarat Titans thrashed Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens to seal a 39-run dominant win. Batting first, Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill’s 114-run partnership helped GT post 198 runs on the board. Meanwhile, KKR flattered in the chase, finishing 159/8 and losing by 39 runs.
Here’s how KKR vs GT panned out in Kolkata:
Sai Sudharsan-Shubman Gill Shine Big At Eden Gardens
Gujarat Titans batted first and the opening pair of Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill unleashed absolute carnage. The duo took pacers to the cleaners in the powerplay to bring up a 45-run powerplay. Sudharsan, the orange cap contender, slammed another sublime 52 off just 36 balls with a 144.44 strike rate.
On the other hand, Shubman Gill missed his well-deserved century by 10 runs. He tried to muscle Vaibhav Arora’s full toss over midwicket. It looked promising until Rinku Singh came charging in from deep midwicket, diving forward to pull off a stunner. Gill walked back to a standing ovation for scoring 90 off 55 balls with 10 fours, 3 sixes and a 163.64 strike rate.
Jos Buttler’s Finish Helps GT Post 198
Meanwhile, Jos Buttler also joined the party. He hammered 41 runs off just 23 balls with 8 boundaries to accelerate the scoring rate. Shahrukh Khan also contributed with 11 off 5 balls and Gujarat Titans finished with a total of 198 runs at the end of the first 20 overs.

For KKR, Harshit Rana had a tough outing, conceding 45 runs in 4 overs. Vaibhav also leaked 44 runs while Sunil Narine, Moeen Ali and Varun Chakravarthy went wicketless.
Siraj Strikes And KKR Openers Fail
Rahmanullah Gurbaz opened the innings for KKR with Sunil Narine. However, the former struggled to handle the fiery first over of Mohammed Siraj. The pacer bowled a good length ball that nipped in sharply to beat Gurbaz’s inside edge and crashed into his pads. The batter was adjudged LBW, leading to an early breakthrough for GT.

Meanwhile, Sunil Narine also couldn’t contribute much as Rashid Khan deceived him to bring KKR down to 43/2. Ajinkya Rahane led from the front to play a captain’s knock. He hit 50 off 36 balls to stabilise the inning and kept KKR in the chase.
Kolkata Choke At Home In Tough Chase

After Washington Sundar got rid of Rahane, GT bowlers applied pressure on the middle order. Venkatesh Iyer had another horrible outing, hitting 14 off 19 balls. Andre Russell made too little difference with 21 off 15 balls. KKR’s last hope, Rinku Singh also succumbed to pressure, hitting 17 off 14 balls. Eventually, the Knight Riders finished with 159/8, suffering a 39-run loss.
