On October 16, India will lock horns against New Zealand for the first Test at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Ahead of the crucial match, India have dealt a blow as star batter Shubman Gill is doubtful for the 1st Test.

According to reports from RevSports, Gill is suffering from a stiff neck, and a decision on his availability will be made tomorrow, depending on how the player feels on Wednesday. It is worth noting that Gill had earlier too faced issues with his neck as he missed the 2nd T20I against Sri Lanka in the series held in July.

Gill has been facing issues with his neck for the past few days, as he was spotted training with a kinesiology tape on his neck. The report added that Gill is not ruled out of the first Test, but the support staff, particularly the physios, are doing their best to get Shubman match-ready.

Who Can Replace Shubman Gill ?

Gill is in top form, as he scored a century against Bangladesh. In case the right-hand batter gets ruled out, Sarfaraz Khan is the most likely option to get a place in the playing XI. Notably, Sarfaraz, who did not get a chance to play against Bangladesh, scored a double hundred in the recently concluded Irani Cup 2024.

However, a rain threat looms over Bengaluru as currently it is raining in the city, and rain is predicted for the entire five days at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

Mohammed Shami Too Doubtful For Six Weeks

Earlier today, Rohit Sharma spoke to the press, where he shed light on Mohammed Shami situation and confirmed that he had swelling in his knee and the team cannot put a mark on his return. In the latest development, Shami is said to be out for another six weeks and could miss the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
