On Thursday, October 14, Thiruvananthapuram MP Shashi Tharoor took to Twitter to share pictures of him meeting India star Sanju Samson, who returned home following his maiden T20I century.

Samson, who featured in the third T20I against Bangladesh, smashed a fourty-ball century, the second fastest hundred for the Men in Blue in the shortest format of the game.

Shashi Tharoor Honours Samson On His Kerala Return

In the latest events, Samson received a hero welcome on his return home as he met Tharoor, who honoured him with a shawl.

"Delighted to give a hero’s welcome to “ton-up Sanju” as @IamSanjuSamson returned to Thiruvananthapuram after his stunning century versus Bangladesh. Found a “ponnada” in the appropriate Indian colours to honour him with!," tweeted Tharoor.

Earlier, Tharoor had expressed his disappointment over failing to watch Samson's century knock live as he was busy with some official work.

"My great misfortune that I was running around the constituency in a series of engagements while @IamSanjuSamson was hitting his spectacular century in the ongoing T20i vs Bangladesh. Wish I could have seen it live! I always knew he could do it, and I am bursting with pride at his amazing performance – the second fastest T20i century by an Indian and one of the most dominant ever played in an India shirt. Keep going, Sanju!," Tweeted Tharoor.

Gautam Gambhir's Backing For Sanju Samson

Before this series, the BCCI was constantly targeted for doing injustice, with Samson as he was never presented with a longer rope to showcase his talent. Meanwhile, Gautam Gambhir changed that as when the squad for the Bangladesh series was announced, India named just two openers including Samson.

It indicated the security Gambhir provided to Samson that he would play all three matches for India irrespective of his performance. In the recently concluded series, Samson amassed 150 runs in three games, averaging 50.
