In a significant development, there are reports that former Mumbai Indians' captain Rohit Sharma is all set to be retained by the five-time IPL winners. According to an article from RepublicWorld, Mumbai Indians will retain Rohit Sharma, who was rumoured to go under the hammer for the upcoming IPL 2025 auction slated in the last week of November or the first week of December.

The report further added that Sharma is likely to be retained for 18 crores. As per the report, Rohit could be MI's first or fourth retention, as the franchises have been asked to submit their list by October 31. The conversation of the possibility of Rohit shifting his base from Mumbai started during IPL 2024 as the MI management sacked him as the captain and replaced him with Hardik Pandya.

Rohit Sharma's Possible Destinations In Case He Leaves MI

Following the issues with MI management, in the last few months, there have been several rumours that Rohit could go to KKR, and even Lucknow Super Giants are interested in having hitman in their side

Rohit had a great IPL 2024 with the bat as he amassed 417 runs with the bat, which included a century. It was his best season with MI as a batter since 2016 when he scored 489 runs in the entire season.  At present, Rohit is in Bengaluru and is sweating hard in the nets, preparing for the upcoming Test series against New Zealand starting on October 15.

MI Sign Mahela Jayawardene As Head Coach

On Sunday, October 13, Mumbai Indians made a big change ahead of IPL 2025 and replaced Mark Boucher with Mahela Jayawardene as head coach just after one season in charge.

The change could mean that Jayawardene could persuade Rohit to stay with MI as the two have won several trophies together as player-coach.
