Rishabh Pant played the innings of his life during the Gabba Test in 2021 against the Australian side. To put into context, Australia were near invincible before the Gabba Test against India, and the visitors had a mountain to climb as the game headed towards the series decider.

The tour started with the infamous Adelaide game, where India were bundled out for a mere 36 runs and to rub salt on their wounds, the then Test skipper, Virat Kohli headed back to India for the birth of his daughter.

Pant sealed India's famous Test win

Ajinkya Rahane was given the responsibility to lead in Kohli's absence and India bounced back in style to win the Melbourne Test. The third match in Sydney was a drawn affair as the series was evenly poised at 1:1 heading into the Brisbane Test. An inexperienced Indian team needed 328 to seal the series, and Pant turned out to be the hero of the match.

The swashbuckling left-hander remained unbeaten and scored a brilliant 89 runs as India conquered fortress Gabba and won the series, 2-1.

Speaking at Star Sports 'Star Nahi Far' Event, Pant revealed how Rohit Sharma reacted to his iconic knock. Pant stated that Rohit felt like a proud big brother and was happy to see Pant's progress in the Test side.

"At the time, I didn't realise how significant it was. Rohit bhai was there, and he told me, 'You have no idea what you've done.' I was like, 'What have I done? My aim was just to win the match.' Rohit bhai said, 'Later, you'll understand what you've done'," Pant recalled Rohit's words.

Pant, the X-Factor for India in upcoming BGT

Not Rohit Sharma, not Virat Kohli, but Pant will hold the key for India in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar series.

He has already toured Australia twice and has carved a name for himself with multiple match-winning knocks. It won't be an understatement to say that Pant loves playing against Australia and boasts a brilliant record.

In 7 Test matches against Australia, Pant has accumulated 624 runs, at an average of 62.40, including a solitary hundred and two fifties.
