In a recent interview with JioCinema, former Indian captain and legendary spinner Anil Kumble praised Rohit Sharma’s remarkable leadership and tactical acumen as he guided India to the top of the ICC World Test Championship standings.

Under Rohit’s captaincy, India has had a stellar run in 2024, including a decisive 4-1 victory over England and a clean sweep against Bangladesh. Rohit’s tactical decisions and his ability to marshal world-class resources have been instrumental in India's success, as they edge closer to another World Test Championship final appearance.

Anil Kumble Praises Rohit Sharma For his Brilliant Captaincy

In the final Test match against Bangladesh in Kanpur, India shattered records to claim victory in a rain-affected game. Kumble, speaking about Rohit Sharma's tactical abilities, highlighted his proactive approach in navigating the complexities of a Test match.

"Tactically, he's been brilliant in terms of being proactive in a Test match with the kind of resources that he has. He's been blessed to have that kind of resources with two world-class spinners and Bumrah, who you can literally throw the ball in the first over or in the 80th over, he'll come and do all his tricks. He is a world-class bowler and to have that kind of resource, he's been blessed."

He commended Rohit’s effective management of India’s young talents, which has been a cornerstone of his leadership. He mentioned players like Yashasvi Jaiswal, who has flourished as an opening batter, and Shubman Gill, who successfully adapted to batting at number three.

Kumble also reflected on Rohit’s ability to lead the team even in challenging situations, as demonstrated in the England series, where he was without the services of crucial players Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant

"But to marshall all of that and then navigate the younger lot, I think he's been brilliant. Someone like a Yashasvi Jaiswal under Rohit's captaincy in his role as an opening batter, you see what he has shown with the kind of approach that he has had. Shubman Gill, of course, has had to move from one and 2 to 3, which he has again done comfortably well here. KL Rahul has been moved up and down. That has again sat really well. It's great to have Rishabh Pant back and Virat, you know, at number four has done brilliantly under Rohit as well," said Kumble.

It is worth mentioning that in 18 Tests under Rohit Sharma's captaincy, India has achieved 12 victories, giving him an impressive win percentage of 66.66%.
