The Indian Premier League (IPL) has long been a decorated arena for audacious stroke-play and fearless innovation. Among its many thrilling spectacles is the art of six-hitting, a craft that demands timing, power and a belligerent mindset. Over the course of nearly two decades since IPL came into existence, a legion of batters have mastered the art of six-hitting with such consistency that they have stormed to landmark figures in record time.

Here, we take a look at three of the fastest cricketers in the history of the IPL to complete 200 sixes, in terms of number of innings.

3. KL Rahul – 129 innings

Elegant Indian batter KL Rahul notched up the 200th six of his IPL profile around the halfway stage of the IPL 2025 season while playing for the Delhi Capitals franchise. In match 35 of the competition against Gujarat Titans at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium, the cricketer tonked Mohammed Siraj for a huge maximum over mid-on to reach the landmark figure.

Playing his 138th match, Rahul completed 200 sixes in just 129 innings to become the fastest Indian cricketer in IPL history to scale the feat. Moreover, the blistering Indian wicketkeeper-batter also became the third quickest overall to breach the 200-sixes mark. As of now, KL Rahul is sitting on a pile of 200 maximums from 129 innings. The right-handed batter has also belted 422 boundaries in his 138-match career, and has aggregated nearly 5,000 runs with the bat at a healthy average of 45.82 and a staggering strike rate of 135.70. Notably, Rahul is currently one of only 11 cricketers in IPL history with 200 sixes to his name.


2. Andre Russell – 97 innings

West Indies’ T20 powerhouse and KKR zealot Andre Russell has so far muscled 212 sixes in just 110 IPL innings spanning 134 matches. While Russell made his IPL debut back in 2012, he belted three of those maximums for the Delhi Capitals franchise before getting acquired by the KKR management.

The seasoned T20 campaigner blasted the 200th six of his IPL career back during the 2024 edition of the tournament last year, doing so in his 97th innings. The second fastest cricketer in IPL history to complete 200 sixes, Russell also holds the highest batting strike rate among all IPL players with over 200 maximums to their names, that of an astonishing 173.53.

1. Chris Gayle - 69 innings.

Chris Gayle, one of T20 cricket’s greatest ambassadors, holds nearly every single major record there is to attain in the game’s truncated format. Apart from being the leading six-hitter in T20 cricket overall, Gayle also holds the record of launching the highest number of sixes in IPL by a landslide, having struck 357 of them in just 141 innings to find himself more than 70 hits ahead of the second-placed batter.

It is worth noting that it took him just 69 innings to complete 200 IPL sixes. The left-handed top-order batter started off his IPL journey with the KKR franchise back in 2009. In his first couple of years, Chris Gayle accrued 26 sixes for the KKR, before amassing a record 269 maximums over a seven-year period for the RCB. He also clattered 92 sixes in just 41 innings for the Punjab Kings franchise during the twilight stages of his IPL career.
