Pakistan Women wrapped up the Women's World Cup Qualifier in dominant fashion, sealing a five-wicket win over Bangladesh Women to stay unbeaten in all five games. Though Bangladesh also manages to qualify, they will second the table as of now with 3 wins out of their 5 games.
Notably, Pakistan’s bowlers delivered a disciplined performance, sharing wickets and maintaining control throughout the innings. Moreover, the clinical all-round effort reflected Pakistan’s consistency in the tournament, as they marched confidently without a single defeat in the tournament.
Ritu Moni, Fahima Khatun lead Bangladesh's recovery after early collapse
Bangladesh Women scored 178/9 in 50 overs against Pakistan Women after opting to bat first. After a top-order collapse left them struggling early on, a gritty knock by Ritu Moni (48 off 76) and a solid late hand from Fahima Khatun (44 off 53) helped the hosts recover from a difficult position.
Pakistan bowlers maintained tight lines and shared wickets evenly. Sadia Iqbal was the pick of the bowlers, claiming 3 for 28 in her 10 overs. Skipper Fatima Sana and Diana Baig picked two wickets each, while Rameen Shamim and Nashra Sandhu took one apiece. The visitors bowled with control, conceding just 13 wides in extras.
Muneeba, Aliya guide clinical chase as Pakistan top tournament table
Openers Shawaal Zulfiqar and Muneeba Ali began the chase cautiously. Shawaal was trapped leg-before by Marufa Akter in just the third ball of the innings, but Muneeba anchored the innings with a crucial 69 off 93 balls, hitting 8 boundaries.
Muneeba stitched a strong 80-run stand for the second wicket with Sidra Ameen, who contributed 37 off 52 deliveries, as Pakistan recovered smartly from the early blow. Sidra fell to Rabeya Khan in the 18th over, caught by Akter, just as the partnership was growing.
Muneeba carried on, adding another 74-run stand with Aliya Riaz, who remained unbeaten on 52 off 65 balls, striking 6 boundaries and a six. After Muneeba’s dismissal at 156 for 3, Aliya and Natalia Pervaiz (13 off 26)* calmly saw Pakistan through without further hiccups.
Among the bowlers, Rabeya Khan was the most economical, picking 1 for 29 from her 10 overs. Nahida Akter and Marufa Akter chipped in with a wicket each, but Bangladesh couldn’t build enough pressure to defend their total of 178.
