India A secured a tight win over their Pakistani counterparts at the Al Amerat Cricket Ground in the fourth match of the 2024 ACC Men’s T20 Emerging Teams Asia Cup on October 19.

Here’s the timeline of how IND A vs PAK A panned out in Al Amerat:

IND A vs PAK A Highlights: Abhishek Sharma, Prabhsimran Headline Opening Powerplay

Winning the toss and opting to bat first, India A openers Abhishek Sharma and Prabhsimran Singh justified their captain’s call by reaping 68 runs from the first six overs of the match. Young Abhishek took a special liking to Abbas Afridi, as the Indian left-hander launched the Pakistani paceman for two boundaries and as many sixes in the space of just four deliveries of the fifth over.

Shortly after the opening powerplay, Abhishek (35 off 22) mistimed one off Sufiyan Muqeem to make his way back to the sheds. His partner-in-crime Prabhsimran Singh soon followed suite after making a swift 36 from 19 balls with three boundaries and three sixes. Regardless, their attacking start helped India A reach 90-2 at the halfway stage of the innings.

IND A vs PAK A Highlights: Captain Tilak Varma Leads India’s Slog-Overs Charge

India A captain and number three batter Tilak Varma charted a fluent 44 from 35 balls to top-score for his team. Nehal Wadhera also listed a valiant 25 in the middle stages of the innings before two quick wickets for Pakistan reduced the ‘Boys in Blue’ to 120-5 in 15 overs.

Ramandeep Singh (17 off 11), alongside Varma added 43 quick runs together for the fifth wicket to ensure a flourishing finish for India A, setting up 183-8 by the completion of their innings.

For Pakistan A, young left-arm spinner Sufiyan Muqeem emerged as the pick-of-the-bowlers with figures of 2-28 from his four overs. Mohammad Imran and Zaman Khan also picked up a wicket each, albeit while conceding over 40 runs from their respective spells. Qasim Akram and Arafat Minhas collectively leaked just 24 runs from their five combined overs with a wicket apiece.

IND A vs PAK A Highlights: Yasir, Qasim Stabilize PAK Response After Early Wickets

India A’s new ball operator Anshul Kamboj struck twice within the opening powerplay to get rid of Pakistan A opener Mohammad Haris and number three batter Omair Yousuf. At 21-2 in 2.3 overs, Yasir Khan stabilized Pakistan’s faltering pursuit of 184 with a steady 54-run partnership with Qasim Akram for the third wicket.

Yasir launched three sixes and a boundary in his 22-ball 33-run knock, while Qasim counterattacked with 27 off 21 until both were dismissed in the ninth over of the innings by left-arm spinner Nishant Sindhu. Pakistan A eventually reached 83-4 at the halfway stage to find themselves another 101 runs away from the remaining 10 overs.

IND A vs PAK A Highlights: Kamboj, Rasikh Salam Keep PAK Down By Seven Runs

Arafat Minhas at number five pumped out 41 runs from 29 balls to keep the chase alive for Pakistan A in the middle overs. His 48-run partnership with Haider Ali (9), and another 26-run stand with Abdul Samad (25 off 15) helped Pakistan A cross the 150-run mark.

As they gained some momentum in the decisive stages, ‘Boys in Blue’ quick Rasikh Salam (2-30) removed both Haider Ali and a well-set Minhas in the space of his two overs to tilt the tide back in India A’s favor. Anshul Kamboj (3-33), after his sublime new ball blitz, delivered a tight final over to keep Pakistan A down at 176-7, as India A secured an exciting seven-run win in match number four of the 2024 ACC Men’s T20 Emerging Teams Asia Cup.
