Pakistan cricket has found a new gem as Kamran Ghulam stole the spotlight with a debut century in the 2nd Test against England at Multan Stadium on Tuesday. The 29-year-old, replacing none other than former skipper Babar Azam, displayed exceptional composure under pressure and etched his name in the record books with a brilliant 192-ball hundred.

But amidst all the accolades, a notable cheer came from Babar Azam himself, who took to social media to applaud Ghulam's efforts,

He posted a collage of the newcomer’s celebration with the message, “Well played Kamran.”

When Kamran Ghulam walked in at 19/2, he bore the weight of not just the Pakistani innings but also the expectations left in the wake of Babar’s absence. The decision to leave out Babar had been contentious, with fans and critics alike questioning whether Pakistan could sustain the blow of omitting their star batter.

Ghulam, however, took the opportunity by the scruff of the neck, displaying nerves of steel and a steady head, perfectly filling the void with his 192-ball knock that included nine boundaries and a six.

His century, completed with a boundary to Joe Root on the final ball of the 74th over, instantly silenced the critics and gave Pakistan fans a new reason to hope. The youngster scored 118 off 224 balls before being castled by Shoaib Bashir.

Kamran Ghulam Filling Up The Big Shoes & Silencing Critics

As Babar has been grappling with a dry spell in Test cricket, failing to notch up a fifty in his last 18 innings, the spotlight on his replacement was intense. Ghulam, however, let his bat do the talking and joined an elite league, becoming the 13th Pakistani cricketer to score a hundred on his Test debut.

Critics who had anticipated Babar’s immediate return were soon forced to eat humble pie as Ghulam showcased what he was made of, carving out an innings that felt like destiny in motion.

With Ghulam’s thunderous entry onto the Test scene, Pakistan’s selectors now face a pleasant dilemma. As they look ahead to the series against South Africa in December, Babar’s form remains a concern, while Ghulam’s confidence and momentum cannot be overlooked.

Although Babar's talent is unquestionable, and he has single-handedly bailed Pakistan out on countless occasions, Ghulam’s performance has put the selectors in a spot where choosing between experience and emerging form will not be easy.
