As India gears up to face New Zealand in the first Test at Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium on October 15, Ravichandran Ashwin’s return to the ground stirs up memories of his last performance here against Sri Lanka in March 2022. Known for skill and strategy, Ashwin was instrumental in guiding India to a commanding 238-run victory in that match, showing once again why he's such a crucial player in the Indian bowling arsenal.

Ashwin Took Six Wickets Across Both Innings In His Last Test At M Chinnaswamy Stadium

India batted first and posted 252 with Ashwin scoring 13. In Sri Lanka’s first innings, Ashwin stepped in just as Sri Lanka’s batters tried to steady themselves after a shaky start.

While Jasprit Bumrah rattled the top order, Ashwin provided a well-rounded attack with his pinpoint accuracy. He ended the innings with figures of 2/30 from 8.5 overs, removing Suranga Lakmal and Vishwa Fernando.

India then declared at 303/7 with Ashwin once again chipping with 13. With a massive target of 447, Sri Lanka’s batters had a challenging task in the second innings. As they tried to mount a resistance, Ashwin unravelled them with a brilliant spell, taking 4 for 55 in 19.3 overs.

Ashwin’s deliveries spun through the air with fierce accuracy, and his variations proved difficult for Sri Lanka’s batters to handle. A key moment was the dismissal of Kusal Mendis, who had struck a solid 54 but misjudged a sharply turning ball and fell to Ashwin, beautifully stumped by Rishabh Pant.

This was a major blow to Sri Lanka’s chase and tilted the match firmly in India’s favour. He then went onto dismiss Dhananjaya de Silva for just 4.

Ashwin wasn’t finished yet, however, as he showcased his experience by dismissing both Lasith Embuldeniya and Vishwa Fernando with brilliant deliveries. Ashwin’s spell became the backbone of India's victory as he wrapped up the Sri Lankan innings with a lethal mix of spin and deception.

The Chinnaswamy Awaits Ashwin's Return

As Ashwin returns to Bengaluru, fans can look forward to another spectacle from India’s spin maestro. Fresh off a Player of the Series performance against Bangladesh, Ashwin’s recent form makes him the trump card for India as they look to dominate New Zealand.

The M. Chinnaswamy Stadium has been a happy hunting ground for Ashwin, and his fondness for breakthroughs on this track adds to the excitement surrounding his comeback here.

As he prepares to once again lead India’s spin charge, his past brilliance here reminds us of what could be in store as the crowd eagerly awaits another Ashwin masterclass.
