Rohit Sharma is all set to lead India in the opening Test of the three-match series against New Zealand at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. It is an iconic venue with many memorable games over the years in both red-ball and white-ball formats. The last Test at the venue was played in 2022 when India took on Sri Lanka and, the home team crushed their neighbours by 268 runs in that game.

It was a turner at the M. Chinnaswamy, and batting was quite tricky, so let's see how the Indian skipper performed in that game. In the first innings, Rohit was trying to be aggressive as surviving on the pitch seemed difficult and he scored 15 off 25 balls, which included a six and a four. However, Lasith Embuldeniya got the better of him in the 10th over of the match, and Rohit's fans were left disappointed. India managed to score 252 in their first innings as Shreyas Iyer batted positively and scored 92 off just 98 balls on a difficult pitch.

Rohit Sharma Provides Solid Start In Second Innings

Sri Lanka, in reply, were bowled out for just 109, with Jasprit Bumrah picking five wickets. India had a lead of 143 runs and Rohit Sharma gave a solid start in the second innings with 46 crucial runs. It set the momentum for a good score in the second innings, with India posting 303 with Pant and Shreyas Iyer scoring fifties.

Sri Lanka were given a target of 447 by India and it was just too much for the visitors as they got bowled out on just 208 runs despite Dimuth Karunaratne's century. The pitch in the first Test against New Zealand is again expected to be a tricky one with rain also around, and India would be expecting their skipper to deliver at the top of the order.
