In a significant development around Delhi Capitals, the 2020 IPL finalists are looking for a new captain for IPL 2025 and want Rishabh Pant to just play as a batter. Further, the Capitals are also set to part ways with Sourav Ganguly.

According to a report from the Times of India, a source within DC remarked that the leadership group feels that Pant would be better without the pressure of captaincy. Thus, they are looking at Axar Patel as the potential candidate to replace Pant as the new DC skipper.

Axar Patel Likely To Replace Delhi Capitals

The source also stated that if not Axar, the Parth Jindal-owned franchise would target a captaincy material at the IPL 2025 mega-auction.

“Yes, the Delhi Capitals could be looking for a new captain. There are chances that India allrounder Axar Patel may take over as the new captain, or the franchise could be eyeing someone who is captaincy material at the IPL auction (likely to take place overseas in mid-November),” a source was quoted as saying by TOI.

“Pant, though, is set to be the franchise’s top retention. It’s just that the leadership group at DC feels that he’s better off without the pressures of captaincy,” the source added.

Delhi Capitals To Part Ways With Sourav Ganguly

Another report from the Times of India mentioned that the Capitals are not happy with Ganguly's performance as their director of cricket and looking to replace him with Venugopal Rao.

“Hemang Badani will take charge as head coach for the upcoming two seasons. Additionally, Badani’s former India teammate, Venugopal Rao, will serve as the team’s director of cricket,” the Cricbuzz report stated.

Further, Ganguly will continue his role for the women's team and Delhi's global franchises in ILT20 and SA20. Further, Hemang Badani is also touted to succeed Ricky Ponting as the next head coach.
