Jasprit Bumrah, the star Indian pacer has been named as the vice-captain of the Rohit Sharma-led Indian team for the three-match Test series against New Zealand. The Board of Control for Cricket in India announced the squad on Friday, 11th of October and have made only one change from the Bangladesh series, with Yash Dayal missing out from the 15-member unit. 

Along with the main squad, India have also announced four travelling reserves in their squad, including the pace trio of Harshit Rana, Mayank Yadav and Prasidh Krishna. The talented all-rounder Nitish Reddy, who recently made headlines with his match-winning performance against Bangladesh in Delhi, also finds a place among the reserves. 

Mohammed Shami Continues To Miss Out; Akash Deep Retains His Place

However, the veteran pacer Mohammed Shami continues to miss out which puts his participation in the Border Gavaskar Trophy later in the year in serious doubt.  Also, the selectors have given a clear indication that Jasprit Bumrah will lead India in Australia if Rohit Sharma misses out by naming him the vice-captain of the side. 

The fast bowler has earlier led India in a Test against England and in three T20Is against Ireland. The rest of the names in the squad are on the expected lines with Yashasvi Jaiswal set to open with Rohit Sharma and the likes of Gill, Kohli, Pant forming the core of middle order.

Sarfaraz Khan also retains his place in the side while India continue to go with both Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav in the squad alongside Ashwin and Jadeja. Akash Deep has also retained his place after impressive performance against Bangladesh, while the travelling reserves are named keeping in mind the Australia series where the likes of Nitish Kumar Reddy and Mayank Yadav could get their first Test call-up.

The first Test is scheduled to start on 16th of October at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium which will be followed by matches in Pune and Mumbai.
