In an exciting news for Indian cricket fans, India are set to participate in the unique Hong Kong Sixes tournament, which will take place from November 1, 2024. The tournament, marking a return after seven years, is played with six players per team with just five overs per side.

A tournament designed for entertainment purposes, Hong Kong Sixes is back with its latest edition after a seven year hiatus. The Hong Kong Cricket Association confirmed that the event will take place from November 1 to 3, and as many as 12 teams are expected to participate.

After Pakistan, India accepts Hong Kong Sixes invitation

India is the latest and most notable team addition, as confirmed by the Cricket Hong Kong social media post. Earlier, Pakistan also confirmed its squad, with Faheem Ashraf named captain.

Notably, the three-day event allows a limited squad of 7-8 players, and given the restrictions, India is expected to send an inexperienced team. Promising talent from the IPL or players who are not part of the international set-up could be added to the squad.

What Is Hong Kong Sixes Tournament?

The Hong Kong Sixes is a unique short-format cricket tournament that has been a major attraction since its inception in 1992. Each team consists of six players, significantly fewer than the traditional 11 in standard cricket.

Matches are played over five or six overs per side, depending on the specific rules in a given year. The tournament is typically held at Kowloon Cricket Club in Hong Kong, with teams from various cricketing nations competing in a round-robin format before moving to the knockout stages.

Previously, legends such as Sachin Tendulkar, Brian Lara, Shane Warne, and many others marked their presence in the tournament.

The last edition was held in 2017, and after seven years, the Hong Kong Sixes is making a comeback in 2024. For this year's edition, 12 teams will participate in a three-day event at the Tin Kwong Road Recreation Ground. The games will be played between 8:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. in a five-over format.
