Mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy described his return to India's national cricket team after a three-year absence as an emotional "rebirth" following his match-winning performance in the first T20I against Bangladesh. Chakravarthy's impressive figures of 3/31 played a crucial role in India's 7-wicket victory.

In the first T20I in Gwalior, India restricted Bangladesh to 127 runs, a target the hosts chased down comfortably, winning with 49 balls to spare and taking a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.

Varun Chakravarthy, who last represented India in 2021, had a dream comeback as he chipped three wickets in his four-over spell. His notable dismissal was of Jaker Ali as he deceived the batter with a delivery that turned sharply and crashed into the stumps.

Varun Chakravarthy express true emotions on India comeback

Having said that, in a post-match interview with Jio Cinema, Varun Chakravarthy expressed his joy after the match, stating that returning to the Indian side was a deeply emotional experience. Despite the long gap, the 33-year-old spinner maintained his focus on sticking to his process, something he has adhered to in the IPL as well.

"After three long years, it was definitely emotional for me. Feels nice to be back in the Blues. It feels like a rebirth. I just want to stick to the process, that's what I have been following in the IPL as well. I don't want to go beyond what's there. I just want to stay in the present," Varun said.

Interestingly, reflecting on the challenges he faced during his time away from the Indian team, Varun Chakravarthy acknowledged how difficult it was to deal with being "written off" by critics.

"Once you're not in the Indian side, people tend to write you off very easily. You need to stay at the highest level and keep knocking on the door. Thankfully, this time it happened. Hopefully, I can continue my good work," he added.

Mayank Yadav also shines on his international debut

For the first T20I in Gwalior, India played two debutants, Mayank Yadav and Nitish Reddy. Speedster Mayank exceeded expectations with a maiden of his very first over in international cricket, thus becoming the only third Indian bowler to achieve so. To add to the impressive debut, Yadav dismissed Mahmudullah to scalp his maiden international wicket.
