The upcoming India vs Bangladesh T20I match marks a return of international cricket at Gwalior’s Shrimant Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Stadium after a gap of 14 years. However, with several Indian right-wing outfits making calls for ‘Gwalior Bandh’ on match day to protest against the atrocities committed on minorities in Bangladesh off late, the district magistrate has now issued certain prohibitory orders to ensure an incident-free match on Sunday, October 6.

The much-awaited contest will also launch the three-match series between the two sides, after hosts India won the two-match Test rubber by a 2-0 margin.

District magistrate issue prohibitory orders in Gwalior

In a bid to ensure an incident-free match at the Shrimant Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Stadium in Gwalior on October 6, district magistrate Ruchika Chauhan has banned protests and circulation of objectional posts on social media, under the recommendation of the Superintendent of Police.

Demonstrations and effigy burning in either public or private places has also been prohibited for the time being, as per the district administration. Moreover, use of inflammable substances has been banned within a radius of 200 meters of all buildings.

In the past few weeks, emerging reports have indicated that several Indian right-wing outfits have been planning to disrupt India’s T20I match against Bangladesh in Gwalior. Some outfits even demanded a cancellation of the match altogether to protest against the violent atrocities committed on Bangladesh minorities ever since the country’s recent political revolution.

Team India will face Bangladesh at the Shrimant Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Stadium on Sunday, October 6; and the action will commence from 7:00 PM IST onwards.

Earlier this week, a Rohit Sharma-led Indian team trounced Bangladesh by a 2-0 margin in the two-match Test series.
