ICC Fines Arundhati Reddy For Fiery Send-Off To Pakistan's Nida Dar During IND vs PAK Match

India women's star bowler Arundhati Reddy has dealt a heavy blow as ICC has slapped her with a heavy fine for breaching the code and conduct of the game during India's match against Pakistan in the ongoing Women's T20 World Cup 2024 match on Sunday, October 6.

The ICC took to Twitter to reveal that they have fined the Indian seamer for her offensive gesture towards Pakistan's Nida Dar after dismissing her in the last over of the first innings.

Notably, the incident occurred on the 4th ball of the 20th over, when Reddy aggressively gestured her finger in the direction of the pavilion signalling Dar to return to the dugout.  Reddy was reprimanded for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct.

She was found to violate Article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to “using language, actions or gestures which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon his/her dismissal during an International Match”.

Reddy admitted to the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by Shandre Fritz of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees, so there was no need for a formal hearing.

Reddy Registers Career-Best Figures Against Pakistan

Nonetheless, Reddy was the Player of the Match award winner for her career-best performance of 3/19. Her spell restricted Pakistan to just 105/8 after 20 overs. Meanwhile, Indian women chased down the target in 18.5 overs with six wickets in hand. 

In addition to the reprimand, one demerit point has been added to the disciplinary record of Reddy, for whom it was the first offence in 24 months.  Level 1 breaches carry a minimum penalty of an official reprimand, a maximum penalty of 50 per cent of a player’s match fee, and one or two demerit points.
