Bengal veteran Abhimanyu Easwaran shaped his 27th first-class hundred by scoring an unbeaten 127 against Uttar Pradesh in the Elite Group C match of the 2024 Ranji Trophy season. The innings marked Easwaran’s fourth century in his last four matches, and fifth in his past six appearances.

The elegant right-handed batter listed consecutive hundreds against India C and India D during the 2024 Duleep Trophy season last month, and subsequently whacked 191 against Ranji Trophy winners Mumbai at the Irani Cup in Lucknow. As Easwaran continues to mount big runs in first-class cricket, fans are now advocating for the 29-year-old to join India’s touring party to Australia later this year, at least as a backup opener.

Shortly after Abhimanyu Easwaran slapped his 27th first-class ton and his fifth hundred-plus score in his past six matches, fans flocked to social media and urged the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to select Bengal veteran as one of India’s backup openers for this year’s Border-Gavaskar Trophy tour of Australia.

Easwaran made his first-class debut for Bengal back in December 2013. A veteran of 99 matches, the right-hander has scored 7,638 runs at an imperial batting average of nearly 50. Boasting of an astonishing conversion rate, Abhimanyu Easwaran has recorded 27 centuries and 29 half-centuries across 169 first-class innings.
