Chennai Super Kings have been the most consistent and successful team of the Indian Premier League. Under the astute leadership of MS Dhoni the franchise has won five IPL titles. They won the tournament the fourth time on this day in 2021.

It was the season when IPL was held in two parts and in two different nations. The summit clash of the tournament was played at Dubai.

Faf du Plessis leading the charge for CSK

CSK batted first and posted 192/3 at the end of their 20 overs. Faf du Plessis was the prime contributor with the bat scoring 86 runs off 59 deliveries. Alongside the South African star players like Ruturaj Gaikwad, Robin Uthappa and Moeen Ali also made effective contributions and took tha team to the formidable total.

KKR had a brilliant start to the chase as openers Venkatesh Iyer and Shubman Gill looked determined to take the game away from the MS Dhoni-led side. Gill (51 off 43) and Iyer (50 off 32) stitched together a 90 run partnership for the opening wicket and set the platform for the batters to come in next.

CSK's dramatic comeback with the ball

However, the resilient bowling by CSK bowlers and the strategic acumen of MS Dhoni scripted one of the most dramatic comebacks of IPL history. They picked up eight wickets in a span of just 35 runs and finished off the game. Even though KKR fought hard and reached the score 164, the match was well over by then.

Redemption after a failure the previous season

The fact that CSK won thir fourth title was not the most important part of this win. It was the redemption and ressurection arc of the team after finishing second last the previous season is what made it special. The franchise was seen celebrating the redemption journey of the team with a special post on their X (formerly Twitter) handle.
