Bhuvneshwar Kumar picked up just seven wickets in 11 matches for the Lucknow Falcons at the recently-concluded UP T20 League 2024 season. The out-of-favor Indian fast bowler, who played his last international match back in November 2022 in Napier, also sustained a below-par IPL 2024 season for the SunRisers Hyderabad franchise earlier this year, considering he picked up just 11 wickets in 16 matches of the tournament at an expensive average of 48.45.

As Bhuvneshwar strives to get back into national reckoning, he was asked to name his ‘cricketing idol’ while he was playing for Lucknow Falcons at last month’s UP T20 League. Without much hesitation, the speedster named former teammate and World Cup-winning skipper MS Dhoni.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar named former Indian captain and legendary wicketkeeper-batter MS Dhoni as his cricketing idol. Interestingly, the speedster also made his international debut for Team India back in December 2012 under the leadership of Dhoni.

The two cricketers shared the Indian dressing room for many years until the former Indian captain announced his retirement.

In August 2017, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and MS Dhoni forged an unbroken 100-run partnership for the eighth wicket against Sri Lanka at the Pallekele International Stadium. With Team India struggling at 131-7 in a chase of 231, their lower-order defiance elevated the ‘Men in Blue’ to a remarkable three-wicket win and a 2-0 lead in the series.

As of now, both Bhuvneshwar and Dhoni are bracing themselves to learn their fates at the IPL 2025 mega auction. It is possible that the two cricketers will likely be retained by the SRH and CSK franchises respectively. The IPL 2025 mega auction is scheduled to be held sometime later this year.
