It was Abhishek Sharma's day Yesterday (April 12). Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), young opener stole the show with a blistering performance against Punjab Kings on Saturday. The 24-year-old, who had struggled for form this season, delivered a stunning performance that sealed a much-needed victory for SRH.
Abhishek Sharma's Unique 'Note' Celebration
His unique celebration after the century made headlines for an emotional gesture that involved a handwritten note for the fans. Just as the crowd at the stadium erupted in cheers, the left-handed batter pulled out a piece of folded paper from his pocket and showed it to the Hyderabad supporters. The note read, “This one is for Orange Army.”
During the Post-match, Travis Head, revealed in a chat with broadcasters that Abhishek had been carrying the note since the first match of the season.
“The note has been in the pocket of Abhishek Sharma for 6 games, glad it came out tonight,” said the Australian batter.
However, Abhishek Sharma later clarified during the post-match press conference that the note was, in fact, written earlier that very morning.
“I wrote it today, itself, because I usually wake up and write something. I got a random thought that if I do something today, that would be for Orange Army. Luckily, today, I felt it was my day," Abhishek said while speaking at the post-match press conference.
Abhishek Sharma & Travis Head's Explosive Partnership
The explosive India's star batter certainly made it his day, smashing a 19-ball half-century and anchoring SRH’s chase with clean hitting and aggression. His knock not only broke his own poor run of form this season but also gave SRH the firepower they needed to overpower Punjab Kings. Together with Head, he formed a formidable opening pair that laid the foundation for a comfortable chase.
It is important to note that this win gave SRH their second victory of the season, bringing their points tally to four and lifting them from the bottom of the table to eighth place.
