Battling a high fever and a lean run of form, Abhishek Sharma produced one of the most sensational knocks in IPL history to guide Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) to a remarkable victory over Punjab Kings (PBKS) on Saturday at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.
Abhishek Sharmaโs Heroics Power SRH To Record Win
The 23-year-old left-hander shattered records by smashing 141 off just 55 balls-the highest individual score by an Indian in IPL history. His innings helped SRH chase down a daunting target of 247 with nine balls to spare. This win helped SRH to break their four-match losing streak and reignite their IPL 2025 campaign.
What made the performance even more inspiring was Abhishekโs revelation during the post-match press conference:
"To be honest, I was sick for four days-I had a fever. But I feel really grateful to have people like Yuvraj Singh and Suryakumar Yadav around me. They kept calling, kept checking in, and they believed in me," Abhishek said in the post-match press conference.
Abhishek, who had scored only 51 runs from his first five matches this season, admitted that doubts had begun to creep in.
"Even when I started to doubt myself a little, they didn't. That belief from people like them-it matters a lot. When someone like that believes in you, you start believing in yourself again. For me, it was just about that one innings. I was waiting for it. And today it came," Abhishek added.
The southpaw shared a blistering 171-run opening stand with Australian star Travis Head (78 off 36) before taking charge after later's dismissal. Despite the pressure of chasing the second-highest total in IPL history, Abhishek remained unfazed and anchored the innings till the end.
With this memorable win, SRH moved to eighth on the points table with four points and a net run rate of -1.245. They will next face Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Wankhede Stadium on April 17.
