Mayank Yadav, who has garnered attention for his raw pace in the IPL 2024, made a remarkable international T20 debut on Sunday (October 6), as India triumphed over Bangladesh by seven wickets to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series in Gwalior.

Mayank Yadav's Remarkable Debut Vs Bangladesh

Returning to action after an injury setback in the IPL, Mayank Yadav impressed everyone with his disciplined bowling. And it is important to mention that he became the only Indian bowler after Ajit Agarkar to open his T20 career with a maiden over.

However, one thing that was highlighted during his bowling against Bangladesh was that he chose to be more measured in his approach and focused on line and length rather than pure speed. This shift in strategy proved fruitful, as he managed to pick up wickets while containing runs effectively.

"I was indeed excited but was a bit more nervous. This series marked my comeback after the injury. I didn't play competitive cricket and then directly made my debut. That's why I was a little more nervous. The recovery period was tough for more. Quite a lot of ups and downs were there in the last 4 months. But more than me, it was tougher for the people who worked with me," Yadav told in a chat with Jio Cinema after the match.

Mayank Yadav while talking to Jio Cinema during the post-match interview, revealed that he took a tactical approach to the game, choosing accuracy over sheer speed.

"Today I focused more on my body. Also, I was determined to hit the proper lengths instead of bowling faster. I didn't think about my speed. I just tried leaking the least runs possible and bowling at a proper line and length.

Mayank Yadav Discloses Gautam Gambhir's Advice

Besides his composed performance, Yadav received a pep talk from India’s new head coach, Gautam Gambhir, ahead of the match. Gambhir, who took over coaching duties earlier this year, offered simple but effective advice to the young pacer.

He stated that Gautam Gambhir told me not to overthink about being his first international game and suggested sticking to the basics.

"Nothing extra, he asked me to stick to the basics and do the things that have yielded positive results for me in the past. He asked me not to think much about trying different things or even think that it was an international game. Following the process was the key," Yadav concluded.

The young pacer’s disciplined approach and adaptability have certainly set a positive tone for his international career.
