Adding to the woes of ailing Rohit-Sharma led-side, India's star batter Virat Kohli departed for a nine-ball duck against New Zealand in the first Test match at the iconic M Chinnaswamy. The 23-year old, William O'Rourke did not waste a moment as he came and removed Kohli in a jiffy.

Kohli, who struggled to get going, came to the crease when the Indian side already faced the setback of losing the skipper, however he failed to hold his nerves as a stunning delivery and a brilliant catch by Glenn Phillips brought him to his knees.

Kohli's Outing Cut Short


In the 9th over, O'Rourke unleashed a delivery outside off, the ball nipped back sharply. Kohli got into an awkward position and aimed to fend it into the leg side however got it high on the bat and the ball travelled straight to the leg gully region. Glenn Phillips dived forward and took an excellent catch above the ground. Immediately after which the Kiwis, could not retain their excitement as they roared in happiness.

The umpires had a quick chat and decided to send it upstairs to check for a clean catch. As the replays showed, it was a fair delivery and Phillips managed to get his fingers underneath the ball and hence, the catch was clean and fair. With Phillips securing the red cherry before falling to the ground, the screen displayed 'OUT' and Virat Kohli had to walk back to the dug out without troubling the scorers. 

Rain Halts Play As Jaiswal-Pant Try To Revive India's Innings

India are in deep trouble having lost three wickets on the trot. Immediately after Kohli departed Sarfaraz Khan walked on to the crease. However, he too, failed to make a significant impact as he fell for a duck. At the time of writing, India are at 13/3 with Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rishabh Pant fighting on to revive the innings. However, rain has once again taken over the Chinnaswamy stadium in Bengaluru and the play has been halted at the moment.
