In the ongoing first Test match between India and New Zealand, Rachin Ravindra turned out to be the point of difference between the two teams as the southpaw smashed his maiden Test century on Indian soil. 

After bowling out the Rohit Sharma-led side for just 46 runs, New Zealand put 402 runs in the second innings, taking a lead of 356 runs. Rachin Ravindra was the star with the bat as he amassed 134 (157), which featured 13 fours and four sixes. 

Rachin Ravindra Gets Standing Ovation

He was the last man to depart for the Kiwis as he fell prey to Kuldeep Yadav on the 3rd ball of the 92nd over. After New Zealand lost their ninth wicket, Ravindra went into an aggressive mode and had also whacked Yadav for a maximum delivery before getting out.

The moment that stood out and has now gone viral on the internet is the whole Chinnaswamy Stadium getting up and giving a standing ovation to Ravindra. 


Rachin Ravindra And His Bengaluru Roots

It is worth noting that Ravindra, who is of Indian origin, played a lot of cricket in Bengaluru in his younger days. His grandparents continue to live in Bengaluru, and Ravindra used to play club cricket in his childhood during his vacations. 

Rachin Ravindra's breakthrough tournament was the ODI World Cup in 2023. He was the leading run-scorer for New Zealand and scored 578 runs at an average of 64.22 and a strike rate of over 100. 

At the time of writing this article, India are 57/0 after 15 overs. Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal are going strong as they still trail by 299 runs after tea on day 2.
