Shubham Khajuria, the Jammu and Kashmir batter created history on Saturday and became the first batter from J&K in 22-years to slam a double century in Ranji Trophy tournament. He attained this special feat against Maharashtra in Srinagar during the Round 1 match.

Interestingly, the last player to score a double ton for J&K was Ashwani Gupta, who achieved the feat in 2002 against Bihar. Khajuria is overall the third batter to score a double century from Jammu and Kashmir, with the third one being Kavaljit Singh.

Ashwani Gupta has actually hammered two double tons, once in 2002, and the other one being in 1995. Courtesy of Khajuria's brilliant knock, his state team is in a commanding position against a strong Maharashtra side.

J&K in dominating position Vs Maharashtra

The Jammu and Kashmir side posted a commanding 519/7 in their first innings, courtesy of a strong showing by their batters. Khajuria registered 255, and he was amply supported by Shivansh Sharma, who scored a brilliant 106 as they dominated the helpless Maharashtra bowlers on a batting paradise.

This was a statement performance from the Jammu and Kashmir side, who are gunning for strong performances. In reply, Maharashtra had a shocking start, losing their opener, early in the innings.

Murtaza Trunkwala was knocked over by Rasikh Salam for golden duck as the J&K side are thoroughly at the top with the Maharashtra side struggling against a quality opposition.
