New Zealand gatecrashed West Indies party in the second semifinal of the 2024 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in Sharjah to set a date with South Africa for the title clash.

Here’s the timeline of how NZ-W Vs WI-W panned out in Sharjah:

NZ-W Vs WI-W Highlights: Suzie Bates, Plimmer Headline New Zealand’s Solid Start

New Zealand openers Suzie Bates and Georgia Plimmer extracted 32 runs from the first six wicketless overs to lay out a concrete foundation for their team at the top. Bates ended up listing 26 runs at a near run-a-ball, and forged 48 runs from eight overs with Plimmer before she was knocked over by Karishma Ramharack.

Amelia Kerr, courtesy of Deandra Dottin, soon followed suite after making a sluggish seven as New Zealand reached 69-2 from 12 overs with unbeaten opener Georgia Plimmer and captain Sophie Devine batting at the crease.

Georgia Plimmer (33 off 31) was out stumped by Shemaine Campbelle off Afy Fletcher at the start of the 13th over after top-scoring for her team.

Middle-order batters Sophie Devine and Brooke Halliday overcame three quick wickets by forming a valiant 27-run partnership to take New Zealand to 96-3 around the 15-over mark.

Despite having seven wickets in the bank, the ‘White Ferns’ merely managed to add just 32 runs from their remaining 5.3 overs. Unbeaten wicketkeeper-batter Isabella Gaze charted 20 off those runs from just 14 balls with two boundaries as New Zealand reached 128-9 by the competition of their innings.

For the West Indies, Deandra Dottin claimed four wickets in her four overs at the expense of just 22 runs. After dismissing Georgia Plimmer, Afy Fletcher added another wicket to her tally to bag impressive figures of 2-23. Karishma Ramharack and Aaliyah Alleyne also chipped in with a wicket each in their combined six overs.

NZ-W Vs WI-W Highlights: WI Lose Top Four In 11 Overs To Eden Carson, Tahuhu

Chasing 129 for a spot in the finals, West Indies lost opener Qiana Joseph as well as wicketkeeper-batter Shemaine Campbelle both inside the first five overs to New Zealand off-spinner Eden Carson. A few overs after the opening powerplay, Stafanie Taylor (13 off 20) became Carson’s third successive victim as West Indies slipped to 41-3 in 8.5 overs.

Captain Hayley Matthews and Stafanie Taylor cautiously navigated West Indies to 48-3 till the halfway stage of the innings, mere moments before Lea Tahuhu got rid of the former at 51-4.

NZ-W Vs WI-W Highlights: Amelia Kerr Subdues Dottin’s 33 As NZ Reach Finals

Eden Carson’s opening three-wicket burst was fittingly complemented by Amelia Kerr, who picked up the key wickets of Aaliyah Alleyne and that of top-scorer Deandra Dottin to reduce West Indies to 96-6 in 17.3 overs.

Even though Afy Fletcher (17* off 15) and Zaida James (14 off 8) chipped in with handy runs in the decisive stages of the run-chase, West Indies failed to keep up with the asking rate, and eventually fell eight runs short of their target.

For New Zealand, Eden Carson (3-29) and Amelia Kerr (2-14) hogged the limelight with the ball by claiming five wickets between them. Fran Jonas, Lea Tahuhu and Suzie Bates also chipped in with a wicket each as the ‘White Ferns’ made it to their first Women’s T20 World Cup final since 2010.
