Josh Hazlewood injury during Gabba Test (Source:@FoxCricket/X.com)
Australia have suffered a major injury setback at Gabba with Josh Hazlewood pegged back by a calf injury on Day 4 of third Test. Hazlewood first reported a calf injury during warm-up ahead of Day 4 and did not walk out to the middle with the rest of the team at the start of the play. The seriousness of his injury is still unknown, but he is set to be taken for scans soon.
The Australian star pacer did came to the field after few overs, but walked off the field again after bowling just a single over. He did look uncomfortable and if he fails to get back on park in the rest of the Test, Australia would have to manage the workload of rest of the bowlers carefully.
Scott Boland Likely To Replace Josh Hazlewood In Boxing Day Test
Hazlewood missed the second Test due to side strain he suffered during the BGT opener in Perth. Scott Boland did well in his absence at Adelaide Oval, but Australia decided to bring back their experienced pacer in this Test, but the move seems to have backfired. The calf injury is not related to the one he suffered in the first Test, but is a fresh one and it means that Australia are likely to be one bowler short in the rest of the Test.
The home team is in strong position, but rain has taken away quite a long time from the game, and Australia would like to push harder for a win as India look to salvage a draw. Also, the injury might force Hazlwood out of BGT, and Scott Boland could replace him in the last two Test matches.
