In a remarkable achievement, Joe Root became England's leading run-getter in Test cricket with a majestic knock in the ongoing match against Pakistan at Multan Cricket Stadium. The talismanic batter struck a glorious fifty, surpassing Sir Alastair Cook on the list of highest run-scorers for England in the purest format.

After a string of stellar batting performances in the domestic circuit, Joe Root received his maiden Test cap during England's India tour in 2012. The stylish right-hander made an instant impact, impressing everyone with his flamboyant stroke play on India's spin-friendly decks. And as they say, the rest is history.

Eventually, Root established himself as England's most prolific batter in Tests, scripting many memorable wins through his sublime performances. In the Multan Test, he consolidated the English innings following Ollie Pope's early dismissal, bringing up a magnificent fifty with the help of four boundaries.

Root, who became the first batter to score 5000 WTC runs, also equalled Rahul Dravid's tally of fifty-plus scores in Tests. Eventually, he surpassed Cook to register the most Test runs for England with a gorgeous straight drive off Aamir Jamal.

England Race To 232 Before Lunch On Day 3

In response to Pakistan's mammoth first-innings score, England powered themselves to 232 for two, riding on sparkling half-centuries from Zak Crawley, Root and Ben Duckett. Despite struggling from a thumb injury, Duckett returned to action on day 3, hammering a breezy fifty to leave Pakistan in tatters. Considering two sessions are left, England are expected to dominate the hosts with their Bazball approach and reduce the deficit by a significant margin before stumps.
