Australia's star pacer, Megan Schutt, made history during the ongoing ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024. She entered the tournament needing just six wickets to become the all-time leading wicket-taker in Women’s T20 World Cup history. Schutt achieved this remarkable feat on October 8, 2024, during Australia's second match against New Zealand at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.

In this match, Schutt delivered an outstanding performance, taking 3 wickets for just 3 runs in 3.2 overs. Her contribution helped Australia dismiss New Zealand for a modest total of 88 runs in 19.2 overs, and the Australian team went on to win the match by 60 runs. Schutt's incredible bowling not only secured her team a victory but also solidified her place in cricket history.

Megan Schutt had equalled the previous record of 43 wickets, held by South African pacer Shabnim Ismail, in Australia's opening match against Sri Lanka on October 5. However, Schutt took full ownership of the top spot during the match against New Zealand by dismissing opener Georgia Plimmer for just 4 runs. Schutt further showcased her skill by taking the wicket of Amelia Kerr, New Zealand’s top scorer with 29 runs, and sealing the win by dismissing Eden Carson in the final over.

Australia-W Thrash New Zealand-W By 60 Runs

Australia won the toss and chose to bat first. Openers Alyssa Healy and Beth Mooney gave the team a solid start, with Mooney top-scoring with 40 off 32 balls. Despite a strong start, New Zealand’s bowlers, particularly Amelia Kerr (4/26), restricted Australia to 148/8 in their 20 overs.

Chasing 149, New Zealand struggled from the beginning, finding it tough to score against Australia’s disciplined bowling attack. Amelia Kerr’s 29 runs were the highest for New Zealand, but the team kept losing wickets. Megan Schutt and Annabel Sutherland both took three wickets, as New Zealand were bowled out for 88 runs, giving Australia a comprehensive 60-run win.
