England's premier batter Zak Crawley missed out on a well-deserved century, as Pakistan's ace speedster Shaheen Afridi got his prized scalp in the ongoing first Test at Multan Cricket Stadium. Opening the batting for England, Crawley struck a blistering 78-run knock before Shaheen made him his first victim.

The incident occurred during the 25th over of England's first innings when Pakistan desperately needed someone to break the second wicket partnership between Crawley and Joe Root. After Ollie Pope's cheap dismissal, the duo formed a solid start to steady the ship for the visitors. While Crawley brought up a dazzling fifty, Root became the first-ever batter to slam 5000 runs in WTC history

However, before the dynamic batting duo could further hamper Pakistan's chances of winning the match, Shaheen Afridi struck against the run of play, dismissing Crawley for 78 runs.

From around the wicket, the left-arm pacer bowled a full-length delivery around the off and middle stump.

As it was full enough, Crawley flicked it using his wrists in the on-side. However, he managed to find the fielder at short mid-wicket, where Aamir Jamal fumbled before holding on to a sharp catch. Interestingly, Jamal earlier took an exceptional catch to dismiss English skipper Ollie Pope.

Ben Duckett Comes Out To Bat In Multan Test

After Crawley's departure, his regular opening partner Ben Duckett joined Joe Root in the middle. Yesterday, the southpaw injured his thumb while taking a sharp catch and didn't open the innings for England. However, as he came out to bat as England's number four, it seems he will participate in the rest of the game. At the time of writing, the visitors were 142 for two, with Root and Duckett batting on 41* and 22*, respectively.
