Joe Root will go down as one of the finest batters in the history of the game and the year 2024 is turning out to be one of this best years. He is now punishing Pakistan batters on a flat deck in Multan and in the process has crossed 20000 runs in international cricket. He has become the first England batter to cross the landmark and is the second among the active cricketers to have more than 20000 runs.

Alastair Cook is the second in the list of most runs by English cricketer in international cricket while Kevin Pietersen is third on the list. England are currently playing first Test of the three-match series against Pakistan and Joe Root slammed his sixth double century in the morning session of Day 4. He equalled Sachin's tally of six double hundreds with his majestic knock and is looking unstoppable in 2024.

England Take Lead Courtesy Record Stand Between Root And Brook

Root's knock has put England in a commanding position with his knock and Harry Brook at the other end is also fast approaching his double century as Pakistan bowlers struggle on a flat deck. Pakistan earlier posted a massive total of 556 with Shan Masood, Abdullah Shafique and Agha Salman scoring centuries.

In reply, England came out with aggressive intent and Zak Crawley hit 78 off 85 balls. Ben Duckett also scored 84 off 75 balls, but it is the 300-plus partnership between Root and Brook that has put England in a strong position.

The match seem to be heading towards a draw with bowlers finding it difficult to pick wickets on a docile pitch and it would be interesting to see how things unfold in the last couple of days.
