Islamabad United flexed their muscles yet again in PSL 2025 as they outclassed Multan Sultans by 47 runs in Rawalpindi on Wednesday. It was a complete team performance from Shadab Khan’s men: fireworks with the bat, tight bowling and clinical execution in the field.

After piling up a huge 202/6, United’s bowlers, led by Jason Holder’s four-wicket haul, never let Multan settle in the chase. Despite a brisk start from Mohammad Rizwan and Usman Khan, the Sultans lost their way in the middle overs and eventually crashed to 155 all out.

Here's the timeline of how ISL vs MUH panned out in Rawalpindi-

Farhan And Munro Lay The Foundation

Islamabad United came out swinging, thanks to another solid start from Sahibzada Farhan, who continued his good form in PSL 2025. Farhan played some delightful strokes early on, racing to his fifty off just 30 balls, peppering the field with 7 boundaries and 2 sixes. However, his partner, Andries Gous was dismissed for 9.

While Farhan was playing well, Colin Munro also picked up the pace. He was at his destructive best, hammering 48 off just 25 balls, including 4 fours and 3 sixes. His aggressive knock pushed the scoring rate well above 10, and by the 11th over, United had already crossed 100.

Haider And Holder Provide The Finishing Touches

After the middle-order wobble where Shadab Khan, Azam Khan, and Munro fell in quick succession, it was up to Haider Ali and Jason Holder to lift the innings. And they delivered.

Haider was all flair and fire, smashing a quick 33 off 16 while Holder turned up the heat at the death with a blistering 32 not out off just 14 balls. His strike rate of 228.57 included 3 fours and 2 sixes, providing the late fireworks Islamabad needed to get past the 200 mark.

Despite the fall of wickets, United didn’t lose momentum and ended at a commanding 202/6, setting up a big challenge for Multan Sultans to chase under pressure.

Rizwan And Usman Give Multan A Flying Start

Chasing a stiff target of 203, Multan Sultans were off to a flyer despite the early loss of Shai Hope, who fell in the first over for just 1. But Mohammad Rizwan and Usman Khan counter-attacked brilliantly, stitching together a rapid 59-run partnership.

Rizwan was his usual composed self, finding the gaps with ease during his 38 off 27, while Usman played the aggressor, smashing 31 off 20 with 3 fours and 2 sixes. The pair kept the run rate above 10 till the end of the powerplay, reaching 62/2 after 6 overs. However, once Usman was dismissed in the 6th over and Mohammad Rizwan followed soon after in the 11th, the wheels started to fall off.

Collapse Derails Chase Despite Iftikhar’s Fight

After Rizwan’s departure at 96/4, the middle and lower order couldn’t hold their ground. While Iftikhar Ahmed tried to keep the fight alive with a steady 32 off 26, the rest of the batting unit collapsed like a house of cards.

Jason Holder was the chief destroyer, picking up 4 wickets for just 25 runs, including the dismissals of Kamran Ghulam, David Willey, Usama Mir, and Hasnain. Imad Wasim also chipped in with two crucial wickets, removing Usman Khan and Chris Jordan at key moments.

The last five wickets fell for just 35 runs, and Multan folded for 155 in 18.4 overs, falling short by 47 runs in what turned into a comfortable win for Islamabad United.
