RR captain Sanju Samson shared a quick update on his rib injury after the Royals lost super over to DC. Samson said the injury felt alright but he wasn’t fit enough to bat again in the second inning.

Rajasthan Royals lost a nerve wrecking super over to Delhi Capitals. Chasing 189, the team fell short of 1 run, leading to super over where Mitchell Starc delivered a masterclass for Delhi.

Meanwhile, the Royals had another headache during the game as captain Sanju Samson was injured and had to leave the field as well.

Sanju Samson Nervous Over Rib Injury

In the 6th over of the second inning, Vipraj Nigam’s delivery hit Sanju Samson in the ribs and he looked clearly in pain. While the physio treated him, the skipper eventually hobbled off the field just after facing a no-ball.

Samson was forced to retire hurt after feeling discomfort in his ribs, paving the way for Riyan Parag. Interestingly, Sanju never returned to bat, even not in the super over.

Meanwhile, after the game, he shared a quick update on his injury during a post-match interview. While his ribs feel better, Sanju Samson admitted that he felt not fit enough to return to bat and hence chose to rest.

"It feels alright. I wasn't just ready to come back and bat. It feels alright now. We will observe it tomorrow and see how it is," Samson said.

RR will face LSG next on April 19, Saturday and RR would hope the skipper is up and running by then.

Can RR Replace Samson Mid-Season?

While Sanju Samson’s injury is not looking threatening, for now, RR has to prepare itself for worst-case scenarios. In case the skipper ends up missing a few games or even the rest of the IPL 2025 season, Nitish Rana, Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Kunal Singh Rathore are a few replacements to consider.

Rana can open the innings while Vaibhav, the 14-year-old sensation, has the temperament and technique to shine at the top. Rathore is a solid left-hander with flexibility and composure who can anchor the middle order.
